Kentucky State University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sports Management within the Exercise Science Program in the School of Education. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction primarily in the Sports Management concentration while supporting the mission and goals of the Exercise Science program. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses, contributing to the University’s online Master’s in Sports Analytics program as assigned, advising students, participating in curriculum development and assessment, supporting program accreditation activities, and providing service to the department, college, and University.
This position requires a strong commitment to student success, instructional excellence, collaboration with faculty and staff, and active participation in the University’s on-campus academic community. Regular in-person attendance is an essential function of this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Teach undergraduate courses within the Exercise Science program, including courses supporting the Sports Management concentration and related academic areas.
- Teach graduate courses in the online Master’s in Sports Analytics program as assigned.
- Develop, revise, and assess curriculum to ensure alignment with program objectives, accreditation standards, and industry best practices.
- Provide academic advising and mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students.
- Participate in student recruitment, retention, and experiential learning opportunities, including internships and field experiences.
- Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to enhance academic programming and student learning outcomes.
- Participate in program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain instructional records and submit grades and other required reports in a timely manner.
- Participate in departmental, college, and University committees and service activities.
- Remain current in the discipline through professional development, scholarly or professional engagement, and participation in relevant professional organizations.
- Maintain regular on-campus office hours and be available to students, colleagues, and University stakeholders.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean.
- Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices in sports management and higher education instruction.
- Ability to create engaging and inclusive learning environments that support student achievement.
- Knowledge of instructional technology and online learning platforms.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Strong collaboration, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
- Commitment to student success, academic integrity, and continuous improvement.
- May provide supervision and oversight to student employees, teaching assistants, or research assistants as needed to support instructional or departmental activities.
- To be assigned by supervisor as needed.
- Master's degree in Sports Administration, Sport Management, Physical Education, Coaching, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. A Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with an emphasis in Physical and Health Education and Coaching will also be considered.
