The Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology is a full-time, non‑tenure‑track faculty position responsible for providing high‑quality instruction in psychology, advising and mentoring students, participating in curriculum development and assessment, engaging in professional development and scholarly activities appropriate to a non‑tenure‑track appointment, and contributing service to the School, College, and University. The successful candidate will support Kentucky State University's mission through excellence in teaching, student engagement, and academic service.
EssentialJob Functions
- Teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses in assigned areas of expertise.
- Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, assessments, and learning activities that support student success and meet University standards.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours and provide academic advising and mentoring to students.
- Evaluate student learning and submit grades in accordance with University policies and established deadlines.
- Participate in curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, program review, and accreditation activities.
- Maintain instructional records and documentation as required by the University.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and governance activities.
- Engage in professional development and scholarly or creative activities appropriate for a non‑tenure‑track faculty appointment.
- Support student recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives.
- Represent the University through participation in professional organizations, conferences, and community outreach activities as appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated knowledge of psychology theories, principles, and research methodologies.
- Ability to teach effectively using a variety of instructional methods and educational technologies.
- Ability to advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, student learning assessment, and academic program evaluation.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
- Commitment to maintaining professional competence within the discipline.
This position does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Faculty responsibilities may include supervision of student research projects, internships, practicum experiences, teaching assistants, and graduate theses or capstone projects as assigned.
Other Duties- Participate in commencement, convocation, faculty meetings, and other official University functions.
- Engage in professional development activities to maintain expertise in the discipline.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D., or other terminal degree) in Psychology or a closely related discipline from a regionally accredited institution by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in university teaching.
- Demonstrated potential for professional scholarship, applied research, or other scholarly activities appropriate to a non‑tenure‑track faculty appointment.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D., or other terminal degree) in Psychology or a closely related discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
- A minimum of five (5) years of successful college or university teaching experience or equivalent professional experience appropriate to the discipline.
- Evidence of sustained excellence in teaching and student mentoring.
- Evidence of continued professional achievement through scholarly publications, presentations, applied research, clinical practice, grant activity, or other discipline-related accomplishments.
