Non-Exempt JOB SUMMARY
Mentor Assistants for the Promising Youth Center for Excellence Grant Program are employed by KSU to serve in an on-site and off-site capacity during the duration of the Program. Mentor Assistants, also, serve as chaperones and are responsible for the well‑being of program participants.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Provide supervision to program participants (especially those assigned)
- Accompany program participants at all times within shift unless dismissed by Program Director, Mentor Coordinator(s), and/or Program Principal Investigator.
- Ensure all program participants feel safe in the program environment.
- Checking on children with medical needs to ensure they have taken any required medication
- Providing guidance, motivation and support to all camp constituents
- Respect the confidentiality of all program matters, families, and program participants
- Assist with all activities as requested by the Program Director, Mentor Coordinator(s), Program Principal Investigator, or activity facilitator.
- Follow and enforce Code of Conduct and Conflict Resolution Plan assisting with group and behavior management.
- Assist with a head count before the departure from the KSU campus and field trip sites.
- Maintain the highest level of communication with the Program Director, Mentor Coordinator, and Program Principal Investigator.
- Complete all reporting forms as necessary (i.e., daily report log, incident reports, etc.)
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Center and its materials
- Attend and participate in First Aid training as needed
- Attend and participate in required pre‑camp training sessions
- Effective communication skills (orally and written)
- Experience interacting with children in a variety of roles, functions, and environments
- Able to lead sessions and groups of youth
- Ability to manage minor conflicts among children and youth
- Experience working with students in an educational capacity, such as teaching or tutoring.
- Assist staff with supervision of program participants
- Perform other duties as necessary.
- KSU student
CPR/First Aid Certification preferred, not required.
WORKING CONDITIONS- Frequent outdoor and physical activities.
