Job Summary

The On‑Site Junior Coordinator provides essential academic and student support services to adult inmates participating in Kentucky State University’s prison education program. They maintain a consistent on‑site presence, offer academic advising, assist faculty, and coordinate logistics for incarcerated students. The role includes on‑site office hours at the correctional facility, ensuring consistent communication among students, faculty, and institutional staff.

Essential Job Functions
  • On‑Site Support and Student Advising: Maintain regular on‑site office hours (approximately three days per week) at the correctional facility; provide in‑person academic and student support services; act as liaison between students and university personnel.
  • Academic and Program Coordination: Advise students on course selection, degree planning, and general academic concerns; assist with admissions, financial aid, and reentry planning; coordinate with Division Chairs to align correctional course offerings each semester.
  • Administrative and Institutional Support: Track academic progress and maintain documentation for incarcerated students; prepare reports, accreditation documentation, MOUs, and support files for off‑site programs; assist in meeting federal and state reporting requirements related to financial aid and program compliance.

    Collaboration:

    Establish and maintain professional relationships with correctional administrators, reentry organizations, and other partners; coordinate efforts with community, industry, and educational institutions.
  • Research, Service, and Professional Development: Conduct research on best practices for supporting adults in custody; analyze effectiveness of educational programs; participate in committees, outreach activities, and professional development opportunities such as conferences, workshops, and seminars.
  • Other Duties: Manage administrative components of the Correctional Education Program (recruiting, admissions, enrollment, reentry coordination); assist in developing promotional materials; maintain communication with the Coordinator for Work‑Based Learning; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) required.
  • Preferred experience in higher education or correctional education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with students and institutional stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in relevant educational technology and administrative software.
  • Knowledge of academic advising, the FAFSA form, admissions, pedagogical principles, curriculum development, and assessment techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong research, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional conduct within a correctional facility and coordinate academic services between the university and external stakeholders.
Working Conditions
  • Correctional Facility Setting: Spend approximately three days per week at Roderer Correctional Complex or similar facilities; adhere to security measures and protocols.
  • On‑Campus Work: Remaining work may occur on campus or in office environments.
  • Office Space: Designated on‑site office hours within the correctional facility; travel between campus and the facility is required.
  • Physical Conditions: Travel between campus and correctional facilities; perform extended periods of desk work; adhere to security procedures and facility protocols.
  • Schedule: Maintain scheduled office hours (approximately 2‑3 days per week); flexibility for occasional evening or weekend commitments for professional development or outreach activities.
