LOCATION: On‑Site – Main Campus

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part‑Time

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The School of Mathematics and Computer Science at Kentucky State University (KSU) invites applications for an Adjunct (non‑tenure‑track) position in Computer Science at an Instructor or Assistant Professor level. This position will teach Computer Science courses in a 16‑week framework. In‑person instruction is desired, but an online teaching format may be acceptable. The teaching load will consist of one to two undergraduate Computer Science major course(s).

Candidates will prepare course materials, deliver instruction, and engage a range of diverse undergraduate students in learning foundational knowledge and skills essential for Computer Science and related curricula.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist, guide, coach, and facilitate undergraduate students in constructing knowledge through gathering, synthesizing information, and integrating it with the general skills of inquiry, communication, critical thinking, and problem‑solving. Develop a class culture that is cooperative, collaborative, and actively supportive of students involved with course materials and keeping up with formative and summative evaluations.
  • Deliver course content in a student‑receptive manner, ensuring students acquire the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to achieve learning outcomes as outlined in the syllabus. Create, post, and articulate course learning outcomes or objectives to ensure student understanding of course expectations.
  • Create and post a course syllabus and a class schedule for each semester. Develop course curriculum and provide handouts, lectures, labs, presentations, and other materials to deliver information understandably and engagingly, ensuring students are engaged to achieve learning outcomes.
  • Create and post course rubrics to assess each student’s performance relative to learning objectives and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist students in mastering course material by being available through office hours and at other times to answer questions and provide one‑on‑one or small‑group sessions.
  • Attend all scheduled class meetings as well as other responsibilities such as office hours and required meetings.
  • Assign grades and maintain course/student records following FERPA regulations, submitting grades and records by established deadlines.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in cybersecurity, object‑oriented languages, networking, game development, web development, database, information systems, discrete mathematics, in various formats including online and in‑person.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in creating course materials (syllabus, handouts, presentations, etc.) that enhance student interest and engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and manage effective grading rubrics for consistent and uniform grading results.
  • Understanding of the use of Blackboard.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
OTHER DUTIES
  • Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education:

    At least a Master’s in Computer Science or a closely related field, or a minimum of 18 graduate‑level hours in Computer Science.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This position requires working in an office and/or classroom setting.
