SUMMARY

The Outreach Counselor will provide marketing and educational services regarding the administration of student financial aid programs and outreach services in Kentucky. This position will serve the Central KY region of Bourbon, Fayette, Franklin, Harrison, Jessamine, Scott, and Woodford counties.

JOB DUTIES
  • Represents KHESLC and KHEAA through outreach contacts (including middle, secondary, postsecondary schools, adult education, and community visits) in assigned region to increase awareness about financial aid programs, resources, publications, and services.
  • Represents KHESLC and KHEAA at college fairs, parent nights, workshops, professional student financial aid meetings, and training sessions, providing free information about career choices, postsecondary options, and financial aid opportunities to students and families.
  • Helps administer Kentucky College Application Campaign, FAFSA Completion Challenge, College Match Day, and College Decision Day programs in their region and serves as agency liaison with KY College Coaches program representatives, as applicable. Conducts student and counselor surveys.
  • Explains how, when, and where to apply for financial aid. Assists students and families with the financial aid application and admissions processes.
  • Promotes , markets services via the use of social media, and provides applicable publications to professionals, counselors, students, and families.
  • Assists in development/modification of new or existing activities and presentations. Thinks creatively about new ways to reach new and existing audiences.
  • Develops and maintains in-depth reports for management.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with community organization and partner agencies.
  • Maintains current knowledge of student financial aid industry trends. Participates in state conferences and other professional development opportunities.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings to ensure accurate and up-to-date training and strong team relationships.
  • Communicates frequently with senior counselor and attends team meetings.
  • The expectation is that the counselor will be in the field an average of four (4) days each week.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of experience in student financial aid, the student loan industry, client relations, marketing, educational administration, public administration, college and career counseling, college admissions, or financial administration.
  • Excellent public speaking, diplomacy, interpersonal skills, and time management/scheduling skills.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high level of initiative.
  • Computer experience working with Microsoft Office products, using presentation-style software such as Canva, and social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and You Tube.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently (an average of four days in the field per week).
  • Occasional evening and weekend availability.
  • Ability to drive long distances in one day.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time while presenting.

    Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
