Department: VPI‑Admissions Office

Working hours:

Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm; may require evenings, nights, and weekends.

Salary: $50,000+ (open until filled)

About the Role

The Admissions Counselor will provide services and answer questions for prospective students, their families, and school counselors. The candidate will serve as an effective member of the recruitment team to encourage a wide variety of academically qualified, intellectually curious, and actively involved first‑year and transfer students to attend the University of Georgia.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in file reader training and act as a full‑time reader in the application file reading process to support holistic review and scholarship award decisions.
  • Manage travel territory under the guidance of the Associate Director for Access & Inclusion and Senior Associate Director for Marketing and Recruitment, working with data to target schools and provide quality customer service during the college search, application, and selection process (virtual and in‑person fairs, panels, visits).
  • Develop, plan, and direct special projects to attract diverse students, including early engagement and college readiness programming for middle school students.
  • Serve as primary counselor and facilitate campus visit experiences (scheduled, virtual, or in‑person) and provide admission counseling, informational sessions, and answers to applicant questions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of admissions policies, recruitment, counseling, and orientation planning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people; communicate ideas effectively in writing and orally before large groups.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, assemble and organize data, and prepare reports.
  • Valid driver’s license (required).
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 35 lb; drive; stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Position requires direct interaction with students and access to security.
