TITLE: Mentor Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Promising Youth Center for Excellence

LOCATION: On-Site – Main Campus and Service Sites

PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:The Mentor Coordinator, a 12 Month Full-Time position, will be responsible for recruiting youths and mentors, facilitating matches, and providing case-management of matches and data for a caseload of mentors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist the Program Director with recruiting, interviewing, and selecting mentors.
  • Organize and facilitate mentor training.
  • Provide training related to youth development, mentorship expectations, and program compliance.
  • Coordinate mentor and mentee activities, including enrichment events and group sessions.
  • Support communication between parents, youth, mentors, staff, and community partners.
  • Coordinate and monitor the matching of mentors with youth, making adjustments as needed.
  • Facilitate monthly mentor meetings and provide ongoing support to strengthen relationships.
  • Meet with staff from target schools to ensure program alignment and collaboration.
  • Assess and track youth progress in mentorship using input from mentors, families, and school staff.
  • I nvolve family members in mentoring activities and encourage participation in program efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to mentor-mentee interactions, attendance, and outcomes.
  • Develop program materials and assist with ongoing project evaluation and reporting for grant compliance.
  • Ensure program activities are conducted in a professional and inclusive manner.

OTHER DUTIES:Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Social Work, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Practicum experience in a human sciences area OR at least two years of experience working with children and families.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Professional demeanor when engaging with youth, families, and partners.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff to achieve program goals.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making under pressure.
  • Experience coordinating youth activities and events.
  • Understanding of mentor-mentee relationship dynamics and support strategies.
  • Familiarity with youth and family engagement strategies.
  • Knowledge of best practices in youth mentorship.
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and digital tracking tools.
  • Ability to travel between KSU and service sites.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
  • Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment.
  • Some work performed in community settings.
  • Occasional outdoor and physical activities; limited physical effort required.
  • Minimal exposure to physical risk.
