Capitol Engineering & Automation provides professional engineering, system integration, and troubleshooting services as well as a panel shop for building custom electrical panels that are UL508A certified. The Principal Engineer is responsible for the daily operation and profitability of the business and is a working leader position.

The Principal Engineer will be responsible for managing operations and reporting for Capitol Engineering & Automation as well as creating a strategic vision to grow the business.

• The Principal Engineer reports directly to the President/CEO of AE Company.
• Analyze and present financial results of Capitol E&A operations.

• Coordinate and oversee employee work activities and training.
• Employees at Capitol E&A report directly to the Principal Engineer, including project managers, engineers, technicians, etc.
• Evaluate employees and review performance regularly.
• Participate in hiring, advising, counseling, and disciplining employees.

• Develop sales and execution strategy for Capitol E&A.
• Reviews quality systems, safety procedures, and training to protect company assets.
• Coordinate with the AE Company Safety and Risk Management departments regarding standards compliance, training, and reporting.

• College degree in Engineering or related field.
• Current Kentucky PE license or reciprocal state with the ability to attain a Kentucky PE license.
• Two years’ experience stamping drawings/designs.
• Five or more years’ experience in managing and deploying automation and controls systems (commercial/industrial) preferred.
• Dependable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
• Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Primarily on-site at AE Company Frankfort office.
• Role occasionally requires working in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
• Some tasks may require working early morning, evening, or weekend hours depending on business needs.
