By joining our Division of Maintenance (Operations and Pavement Mgmt Branch) as a Transportation Engineering Technologist III in Franklin County, you’ll have the opportunity to support statewide pavement and roadwayasset management programs through the processing, quality control, and reporting of automated roadway dataused for engineering decision making.

Holders of the Transportation Engineering Technologist III position will complete tasks such as:

  • Process and manage statewide LCMS, LiDAR, and Pavement Asset Data
  • Perform quality control of automated pavement, imagery, and asset data
  • Prepare engineering data for pavement evaluations, mapping, and HPMS reporting
  • Serve as KYTC technical liaison with data collection vendors and software preparation
  • Assist branch staff with engineering data access, reporting, and operational tasks

Ideal Candidate will have experience in:

  • Engineering data processing and reporting
  • Automated roadway data collection technologies (LCMS, LiDAR, imaging systems)
  • Database systems, data management, and, or, cloud based file workflows
  • Microsoft Excel, SQL, Python, and other data analysis tools
  • Technical troubleshooting and vendor coordination

Minimum Requirements EDUCATION

Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, computer science, data science, geology, earth science, industrial technology, industrial drafting, design technology or construction technology. OR Graduate with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS

Four years of engineering-related experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE

1. Possess a valid EIT certification issued by the Kentucky State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors OR 2. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate degree in an engineering field OR 3. High school OR 4. High school

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION

1. Must have four years of engineering-related experience with the first education option above; OR 2. Must have seven years of engineering-related experience with the second education option above; OR 3. Must have ten years of engineering-related experience in which case related technical or vocational training will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years with the third education option above;

OR 4. Must have eight years of bridge inspection experience under the supervision of a Qualified Inspection Team Leader, plus successful completion of a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course with the fourth education option above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.)

Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites and other types of work zones which require the following of safety procedures.
