Job Description Substation Engineer / Technical Project Manager

Join a growing engineering team leading utility substation projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV
. This role blends technical leadership, project management, and client engagement
, overseeing projects from concept through construction while mentoring engineers and driving successful project delivery.

• Lead greenfield and brownfield substation, switching station, and collector station projects from planning through closeout.
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, risks, and overall financial performance.
• Serve as the primary client contact and coordinate internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership for substation design deliverables, including drawings, calculations, specifications, and construction support.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, transmission, protection & controls, and SCADA teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Support proposals, contract negotiations, design reviews, and client presentations.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred).
• 7+ years of utility substation experience, including 3+ years managing projects.
• Strong experience leading substation design and engineering deliverables.
• Proven ability to manage scope, schedule, budget, and client relationships.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.

• PE license or EIT certification.
• Experience across multiple voltage levels (
  13kV-500kV+).
• Background in substation physical design and/or protection & controls.
• Previous mentoring or team leadership experience.

This is a Permanent position based out of Lexington, KY.

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $180000.00/yr.
