By joining the Division of Water's Surface Water Permits Branch as an Environmental Engineer Supervisor of the Municipal Section in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to lead a team in preparing Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (KPDES) permits for publicly-owned treatment works and providing technical and scientific assistance on permitting for this regulated community.

Holders of the Environmental Engineer Supervisor position will complete tasks such as:

  • Supervise a team of employees in the Municipal Section including, but not limited to, approving and denying leave requests, approving timesheets, providing coaching to staff, completing staff evaluations, etc.
  • Review draft permit documents for KPDES discharge permits to Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants prepared by staff to determine compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance regarding environmental statutes and regulations related to KPDES permit applications and permitting documents, the Pretreatment Program, the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems(MS4s) Program, and the Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) compliance program.
  • Represent the Division at meetings and conferences as it relates to KPDES permitting activities and conducts site visits as required.
  • Act as an expert witness at hearings regarding the KPDES permitting program.
