The Division of Consumer Protection, a part of the Department of Insurance, was formed in 1998 to assist consumers with insurance‑related issues. It handles complaints against health, life, auto, homeowners, and commercial insurers, as well as complaints about agents or agencies.
Responsibilities- Investigate complex complaints for violations of Kentucky statutes and regulations by conducting field investigations, interviewing parties, mediating and resolving complaints, and issuing corrective‑action recommendations.
- Answer complex inquiries about insurance laws and regulations by drafting letters, memos, and using form letters to respond to inquiries concerning KY statutes and regulations.
- Prepare reports, charts, and other materials, operating the internal database used to track, manage, update, and close all complaints.
- Cooperate with other divisions within the Department of Insurance, other state insurance departments, and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, while abiding by departmental rules, regulations, and policies.

Education: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Experience, Training, or
Skills:
Minimum three years in investigating, auditing, consumer education, mediating, or resolving complaints or a related field.
Substitutions: Experience in the related field may substitute for required education on a year‑for‑year basis; current or prior military experience may substitute for required college on a year‑for‑year basis.
Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license prior to employment and maintain any required licensure, certification, or other credentials for the duration of employment.
Working Conditions:
May work irregular hours and travel as required, performing work in all weather conditions. Probationary Period: 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
