Janitor; SC

Overview

The janitor will be responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the facility. This includes traditional janitorial tasks like mopping and dusting, and requires an understanding of proper handling and disposal of biological waste. Environmental services technicians often work in shifts around the clock in facilities that are always open.

• Use dry dust cloths, high-dusting tools, and vacuum cleaners to clean windowsills, blinds, floors, and furniture.
• Move furniture and furnishings as needed to access areas for cleaning.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of infection control, isolation procedures, and proper operation of cleaning equipment.
• Maintain age-specific precautions as applicable.
• Dispose of all medical waste, including hazardous, regulated, infectious, recyclable, and regular waste appropriately.
• Ensure adequacy of supplies and restock as needed.
• Perform a variety of custodial tasks related to cleaning and refurbishing all public areas of the facility (e.g., lobbies, meeting rooms, restrooms) to ensure they are clean, sanitized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
• Operate a variety of cleaning equipment and utilize appropriate cleaning supplies to perform housekeeping duties.
• Clean and sanitize patient rooms to maintain their ongoing cleanliness.
• Performs related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department.
• Mix, store, and use chemicals safely according to department standards.

• Proficient written and oral communication skills as required by the role.
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
• Linen and laundry handling.
• Leadership skills to oversee the work of peers and communicate effectively with team members and all levels of management in the organization.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two years of related experience required.
• Knowledge of proper cleaning, sanitation, infectious waste handling, floor and carpet care, aseptic procedures, and safe use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.

• Prolonged standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands.
• Occasional exposure to loud noises.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary.
• Ability to hear and see to meet position and safety requirements.
• Occasional exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals.

• Must be able to pass a federal, state, or local government background investigation as required.
