American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position in Frankfort, KY, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and an active KY or compact RN license.
Requirements
- Active KY or compact RN license in good standing required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
- Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required (must be certified annually)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Skills required:
CPAP/BiPap management, port access, and therapeutic phlebotomy - Preferred experience with chest tubes, NG tubes, wound vac, drains, post-dialysis assessment, central lines, blood transfusions, and ventilators
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration
- One professional reference required
- No employment gaps of 90 days or more in the past 12 months
Responsibilities
- 10-bed ICU unit within a 173-bed acute care, Magnet®-designated hospital in Frankfort, KY
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
- Every other weekend required
- Patient ratios of 2:1 or 3:1
- Unit staffing includes Clinical Nurse Coordinators (CNCs), RNs, PCTs, and Nurse Externs
- Equipment used includes Philips Telemetry, Baxter pumps, iMobile, ventilators, and glucometers
- Documentation system:
Meditech Expanse - Floating may be required to PCU, 3rd floor, or ED
- Procedures performed on unit include telemetry monitoring, BiPap, therapeutic phlebotomy, and physician-led paracentesis
- 13‑week contract
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- Navy or gray scrubs required
- The unit is supported by a director, manager, and clinical educator
- Strong interdisciplinary communication and collaboration with all providers
- Group Me is used for team communication, questions, and staff recognition
- The unit regularly hosts traveling nurses, many of whom have extended their contracts
- Team recognition includes bi‑weekly unit prizes, Daisy Nominations, and inclusion in staff and hospital celebrations
- The facility has received Magnet® designation for nursing excellence and is accredited by The Joint Commission
