Description
The Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) seeks a Chemist I to support the Division of Environmental Program Support (DEPS), Inorganic Branch, Standard Testing Section. The chemistry laboratory works with waters and soils across Kentucky, analyzing nutrients, metals, volatile compounds, pesticides, and harmful algal blooms. The role focuses on preparation and analysis of inorganic compounds, data reduction, and instrument maintenance.
Responsibilities- Perform routine preparation and analysis of water, waste, soil, and tissue samples using various analytical methods
- Serve as the primary analyst for multiple methods after training
- Convert raw data to final results with data reduction programs, reviewing data for errors
- Perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments
- Occasional travel and field work; standing, stooping, bending, lifting, and desk work as required
Pay Grade: 13;
Monthly salary: $3,273.74 - $4,910.60;
Full time, 18A; 37.5 hours per week;
Eligible for overtime pay. Promotion opportunities available.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, natural, physical, forensic science, or a related scientific field
- No prior experience required
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Work is performed in a laboratory setting and may involve exposure to hazardous materials. Some field work may be required.
Probationary PeriodThe position includes an initial and promotional probationary period of six months.
