DescriptionThe mission of the Kentucky Energy & Environment Cabinet (EEC) is to improve the quality of life for all Kentuckians by protecting our land, air, and water resources while utilizing our natural resources in an environmentally conscientious manner. We help families connect with nature and preserve the Commonwealth’s natural heritage, and we support innovative, resilient, and sustainable energy solutions that bring economic benefit to the commonwealth.
This is a federally funded time‑limited (FFTL) position. Employees are paid entirely from a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant. FFTL employees are required to meet minimum position requirements and are considered unclassified (non‑merit) employees. They are eligible to receive benefits at the same level as classified employees in permanent positions.
ResponsibilitiesThis position will be responsible for administering the Emerging Contaminants in Small or Disadvantaged Communities (EC‑SDC) Grant. Responsibilities include grant management, project tracking, coordination with EPA and funding recipients, development of program guidance, review of work plans and reimbursement requests, compliance monitoring, and preparation of required federal reports. The incumbent will ensure timely expenditure of federal funds and successful completion of grant objectives.
As a member of the Division of Water Drinking Water Branch, the employee will assist in ensuring successful delivery of critical drinking water infrastructure improvements throughout the Commonwealth and help Kentucky schools and childcare facilities identify and address sources of lead exposure in drinking water.
Qualifications- Interpretation and implementation of environmental regulations
- Environmental monitoring and/or data analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Experience in databases or data management with multiple data systems
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication
- Leadership skills, including project coordination and collaboration with multiple organizations
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a natural, biological or physical science OR Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 20 semester hours in a natural, biological or physical science.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR
SKILLS:
Three years of experience in natural resources, environmental control, or a related area.
Substitute EDUCATION for
EXPERIENCE:
Graduate study in a natural, biological, or physical science will substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Travel & ConditionsTravel is required both within and outside of state (less than 25%).
Work is typically performed in an office setting but may involve frequent travel statewide. Incumbents may be subject to adverse weather conditions, exposure to snakes and insects, water‑borne pathogens, broken glass, rusty metal in streams, and hazards common to the operation of electro‑fishing equipment, requiring adherence to safety procedures.
