By joining the Division of Waste Management, Recycling and Local Assistance Branch, Recycling Assistance Section as an Environmental Scientist I in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to, under direct supervision, provide support and technical oversight for the evaluation of environmental, mining, natural resources and energy to the general public, businesses, local, state, and federal agencies. Perform entry-level duties in the development, interpretation and implementation of environmental protection, environmental mitigation, energy and natural resource policies and regulations, such as routine monitoring and inspections to determine compliance, simple data analysis, and basic reporting.

Holders of the Environmental Scientist I position will complete tasks such as:

• Provides entry-level assistance in the development and evaluation of environmental, mining, natural resource and/or energy programs, agency guidelines, and procedures relating to Recycling and Local Assistance. Provides technical assistance.
• Under direct supervision oversees, determines, develops, and/or implements environmental plans or projects for regulatory compliance.
• Conducts field inspections at Waste Tire Collection Events, reports findings to supervisor, recommends invoice approvals and coordinates with Contractors throughout the State.
• Attends event meetings, seminars, and conferences to learn program related procedures and provide current information to staff on updated recycling programs and efforts throughout the state.
• Performs other duties as required.

Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:

• Maintain a valid driver's license
• Be exposed to dangerous working conditions including rough terrain
• Frequently communicate in person or by other means of technology
• Spend a major portion of time using a computer
• Work overtime or alternate work schedules.

Additional position information:
Travel required, walking on uneven surfaces, working in an office setting,standing, sitting, and bending over will be expected in this position.
