The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. The Cabinet provides education and training programs, employment and reemployment services, unemployment insurance, and disability determination services to help Kentuckians gain skills, find work, and maintain economic stability. It partners with education providers, workforce boards, and employers to align training with labor market needs and oversees labor programs that promote fair and safe workplaces.

The Department of Disability Determination Services assists and determines eligibility for Social Security Administration Disability benefits for citizens in Kentucky.

We are seeking a Disability Adjudicator III in the Case Processing Section B1 of the Case Processing Branch B to provide consultation services to Social Security Administration disability adjudicators and provide professional adjudication for disability applicants.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert level advice and consultation to less experienced adjudicators on complex disability claims; respond to questions regarding development and documentation of disability claims; adjudicate all levels of disability claims and special workloads; request, obtain, and evaluate medical and vocational evidence and prepare written decision.
  • Assist supervisors in identifying and resolving caseload problems in unit, recommending procedural changes, and/or performing consultative exams and other reviews.
  • Serve as field office point of contact and, or, serve on work groups.
  • Answer inquiries from claimants, representatives, Social Security offices and others requesting claims information.

The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends.

Minimum Requirements
  • EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

    SKILLS:

    Three years of experience adjudicating Social Security Administration disability claims.
  • Substitute EDUCATION for

    EXPERIENCE:

    NONE
  • Substitute EXPERIENCE for

    EDUCATION:

    Experience in adjudicating Social Security Administration disability claims or administrative experience within an organization that adjudicates Social Security Administration disability claims will substitute for the required bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office setting. Conducting hearings and professional relations may require frequent travel. The other functions may require occasional travel. A 40-hour work week is required.
