Job Description
Summary:
As part of BD Specimens Management business line, the engineer will be a key contributor on the R&D Team. The individual will be responsible for providing product development and engineering support by developing, integrating, and troubleshooting medical device components and systems related to biological samples.
The Role
As an R&D Staff Engineer II, you will lead technical activities, solve complex engineering problems, and support major R&D initiatives. You will collaborate cross‑functional teams, drive high‑quality results, and contribute to BD’s mission to improve global healthcare.
Key Responsibilities- Develop technical approaches, in vivo/in vitro models, and robust test methods.
- Lead benchtop studies, verification/validation efforts, and root‑cause investigations.
- Apply DOE, statistical analysis, and engineering fundamentals to evaluate designs.
- Design test fixtures, conduct MSA, and analyze data to support decisions.
- Communicate findings through clear reports and presentations to peers and leadership.
- Support material, design, and process changes under design control requirements.
- Contribute to R&D strategy, capability development, and evaluate new opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with quality policies and maintain strong documentation.
- Mechanical, Biomedical or closely related engineering fields.
- Strong technical judgment, leadership skills, and ability to lead R&D projects.
- Proficiency in solid CAD modeling (Creo, Solid Works) and design for manufacturability.
- Experience in designing test methods, in vivo/in vitro test models, and test fixtures.
- Strong competency in DOE, statistical methods, and data analysis (Minitab).
- Experience with MSA, DFSS, design reviews, and regulated design control.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience for B.S., 7+ years for M.S., 5+ years for Ph.D. in relevant technical area.
- Hands‑on experience with device and component design, manufacturing, and testing.
- Medical device experience in regulated environment.
- Experience with computational modeling (FEA/CFD) and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience performing quantitative evaluation of product performance.
