Our client, a US Fortune 250 company and a global medical technology corporation serving customers in Clinical Labs, Health care research & Pharmaceutical industry, seeks an accomplished Senior Materials Technician - Polymers

Position: Senior Materials Technician - Polymers

Location: Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417

Duration: 12 months with possible extension

Pay Rate: $33/hr

Relocation Expenses/ Assistance: NO

Position Summary

The Senior Materials Technician supports Materials R&D activities with a focus on polymer formulation development and materials characterization. This role is responsible for batch mixing, compounding, extrusion, laboratory testing, data interpretation, and technical reporting. The technician plays a key role in maintaining lab operations, supporting audits, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the materials laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform batch mixing, compounding, and extrusion of various material types
  • Conduct materials testing and experiments in support of formulation development
  • Interpret test data to identify trends, draw conclusions, and recommend solutions
  • Submit finalized data to requesters and ensure proper archival
Lab Operations & Compliance
  • Operate and maintain materials characterization and testing equipment
  • Ensure calibration, preventive maintenance, and overall lab health
  • Manage chemical inventory, MSDS documentation, and removal of expired chemicals
  • Oversee lab supplies inventory and act as primary purchase order processor
  • Maintain good laboratory practices and housekeeping standards
  • Support lab audits and ensure compliance with safety and quality regulations
Continuous Improvement & Technical Support
  • Participate in troubleshooting and repair of equipment or test methods
  • Support or establish lab operating procedures and test methods
  • Coordinate equipment upgrades, installations, and fixture development
  • Execute continuous improvement projects across lab operations
  • Communicate accurate, timely information to support effective decision‑making
  • Collaborate across teams to optimize problem‑solving outcomes
  • Provide subject matter guidance and technical input as needed
  • May mentor or provide limited supervision to junior technicians
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience
Required

Skills & Qualifications (Must Have)
  • Hands‑on experience with polymer compounding (extrusion, batch mixing)
  • Experience with polymer processing (injection molding, compression molding preferred)
  • Knowledge of mechanical measurement equipment (e.g., Instron)
  • Experience with two or more materials characterization techniques, such as:
  • Coefficient of Friction
  • FTIR
  • SEM/EDS
  • DSC
  • TGA
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and quality requirements (ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Commitment to good laboratory practices and safety standards
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis
  • Experience with test report generation
Additional Information
  • May require lifting of resin barrels
  • Works under general supervision with minimal assistance
  • Encouraged to expand technical and industry knowledge
