Education Required
At minimum, an Associate's Degree in a Technical or Science Field.
1-5 years relevant experience in a technical discipline, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
Job OverviewIn the Materials R&D group, the Technician I will be responsible for conducting bench level testing and experiments, writing technical reports, supporting the test request workflow, and operating equipment in the materials characterization and testing labs while ensuring compliance with BD quality policies. The Technician I understands procedures and practices through appropriate communication, training, and education of sound quality assurance principles;
and ensures compliance with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.
- Assists in the execution of materials testing that support sustaining engineering, new product development, or technology feasibility testing with supervision.
- Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory material test results.
- Reports results of experiments to direct manager and materials engineers.
- When necessary, prepares technical reports according to an established template.
- Maintains good laboratory practices (GLP).
- Works with the team to organize lab functions, including calibration.
- Has basic understanding of materials characterization capabilities.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
- Associate's Degree in a Technical or Science Field.
- 1-5 years relevant experience in a technical discipline, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
- Experience with material characterization or testing instruments and equipment.
- Training in laboratory safety and procedures.
- Knowledge of mechanical measurement equipment (e.g. Instron) and/or materials characterization capabilities (e.g. FTIR, DSC, TGA) is desirable.
- Ability to work in a team and independently.
- Ability to integrate written and verbal instructions, work under supervision.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
- Knowledge of computer programs, especially Excel.
- Awareness of external regulations (ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM).
- Task-oriented.
