The Laboratory Technician I contractor in the Materials Center of Excellence ("MatCOE") R&D group will be responsible for conducting testing/experiments, writing technical reports, supporting the test request workflow, operating equipment in the materials characterization and testing labs, contributing to the success of the MatCOE R&D group in supporting the expanding portfolio of the Medication Delivery Solutions business, and ensuring compliance with BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through communication, training, and education of sound quality assurance principles.
The role also ensures compliance with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Lab Organization:
Follow and support improvement of the workflow process for the MatCOE R&D labs, including instrument operation and maintenance. Work with lab owners to schedule upcoming servicing and calibrations. - Process Effectiveness:
Ensure appropriate processes are followed for effective and timely stakeholder engagement and completion of assignments. - Innovation:
Contribute to the development of creative and novel solutions to technical problems, including test fixture and method development. - Customer Focus:

- Associate's Degree in a Technical or Science Field
- 0-5 years relevant experience in a technical discipline, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
- Experience with polymer characterization/testing instruments and equipment.
- Training in laboratory safety and procedures.
- Experience operating three or more specific instruments/equipment (including Instron mechanical tester; TGA; DSC; FTIR; rheometers; profilometers).
- Good technical skills and judgment.
- Basic understanding of disciplined product development processes, regulatory and quality requirements.
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong fit with BD values.
- Experience with basic statistical analysis and software (e.g., Minitab) preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office/Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
