OverviewReporting to the Lead Technician, the incumbent performs bench‑level engineering tests and/or research experiments designed to test the feasibility of concepts or technologies required for development or revision of new products. Assist, when relevant, in transfer of technologies into product development.
Responsibilities- Independently plans and performs experiments that support sustaining engineering, new product development or technology feasibility testing.
- Participate in equipment and test method validations at the direction of the TMD/V&V group.
- Assist in the planning, execution, and analyzing of experiments.
- Maintain an R&D laboratory notebook.
- Reports results of experiments to project leadership and, when necessary, prepares technical reports.
- Supports the MDS intellectual property strategy by documenting data and independent, unique, and patentable ideas that result from experimentations and concept generation.
- Serves as a technical expert regarding laboratory instrumentation, including but not limited to robotic workstations, automated analysis instrumentation, and general laboratory equipment.
- Maintains good laboratory practices (GLP) consistent with MDS product development objectives and regulatory guidelines.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
- Completes onboarding of new associates.
- Trains new associates on test methods and laboratory practices.
- High School Diploma + 5‑10 years of experience in a laboratory setting
- AA degree + 3‑5 years of experience in a laboratory setting
- BS degree in a Science or Engineering discipline
Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of the operation of mechanical measurement equipment (e.g., Instron) desirable.
- Superior communication skills, both written and oral.
- Knowledge of computer programs.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis desirable.
- External regulations (ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM).
