Sr. Materials Technician
Pay Range: $30hr - $33hr
The Sr. Materials Technician supports materials testing and laboratory operations through batch mixing, compounding, extrusion, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role involves hands-on laboratory work, data interpretation, equipment maintenance, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate results, compliance, and efficient lab operations.
Responsibilities:- Perform batch mixing, compounding, and extrusion of various material types.
- Interpret test data to draw conclusions, identify trends, and provide solutions.
- Participate in problem-solving activities and improvement of test plans.
- Oversee laboratory supplies inventory and manage reordering activities.
- Act as the primary processor for laboratory purchase orders.
- Manage chemical inventory and maintain MSDS documentation.
- Ensure timely identification and removal of expired chemicals.
- Collaborate effectively within teams to optimize problem-solving outcomes.
- Communicate accurate and relevant information in a timely manner to support decision-making.
- Submit final test data to requesters and ensure proper archival with lab technicians.
- Execute continuous improvement projects related to equipment, methods, and laboratory processes.
- Troubleshoot and support equipment or method repairs as needed.
- Establish and support materials laboratory operating procedures.
- Coordinate equipment upgrades and installations.
- Support fixture development and maintenance activities.
- Operate with minimal supervisory assistance under general supervision.
- Continuously develop technical, industry, and product knowledge.
- Apply logical methods to solve complex technical problems.
- Add subject matter value and provide technical direction when required.
- Support laboratory operations including equipment calibration and maintenance.
- Mentor or supervise junior technicians as needed.
- Practical knowledge of batch mixing, compounding, and extrusion processes.
- Practical and technical knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Understanding of laboratory maintenance, housekeeping, and good laboratory practices.
- Knowledge of training requirements for lab procedures, preventive maintenance, and calibration.
- Ability to perform statistical analysis and generate test reports.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and handle laboratory materials when required.
- Laboratory experience supporting materials testing and analysis.
- Experience working under regulated and quality-driven laboratory environments.
- Operation of mechanical measurement equipment and materials characterization tools.
- Polymer compounding and polymer processing techniques.
- Use of small hand tools and precision devices for testing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science or Engineering discipline.
- Laboratory experience in a materials or research environment.
