POSITION SUMMARY
Join our team as a Quality Specialist, where you'll champion quality systems and digital platforms (QMS, DMO, SAP) to ensure product excellence. You'll verify online tests, manage net content, and support sensory testing. This role includes developing standards, training team members, and driving continuous improvement through data analysis.
You'll collaborate closely with Production and Quality teams to solve issues, enhance processes, and ensure Vital Proteins products meet Nestlé and regulatory standards—all from our Franklin Park facility.
Key Responsibilities- Support production decisions related to quality and food safety; serve as the Quality Assurance liaison for the facility.
- Audit Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), procedures, and paperwork on the production floor.
- Manage SAP systems, including setup of new materials for production.
- Provide coaching and training to employees on quality standards and procedures.
- Proactively reduce quality holds and failures to meet First Time Right (FTR%) targets.
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Go See Think Do).
- Actively support Daily Operating Reviews (DORs), and Weekly Operating Reviews (WORs).
- Develop, revise, and implement forms/SOPs to maintain quality systems.
- Manage procedural and Quality Management Systems (QMS) changes.
- Share top consumer complaints to raise awareness and drive improvements.
- Conduct investigations and implement process improvements to reduce complaints.
- Review and verify Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans and documentation on the shop floor.
- Perform Behavior-Based Quality observations.
- Work flexible hours and cover off-shifts as needed.
- Support product/process improvements and packaging material changes (New implementation).
- Write protocols and assist with validation activities across the business unit.
- Assist in internal audits and support external certifications (FDA, Kosher, FSSC, Organic).
- Develop and deliver Quality Training modules.
- Provide in-line quality verification and training support.
- Liaise with suppliers and manage the supplier quality defect program.
- Serve as backup for SSOP, Pre-Op, and other inspections.
- Lead root cause analysis reviews (GSTD) for quality incidents.
- Participate in the Factory Food Safety Team and lead HACCP/QMS reviews.
- Perform annual HACCP verification activities.
- Act as liaison to NGMP champion for 5S, visual standards, and Total Productive Maintenance.
- Support continuous improvement and ensure alignment with quality standards.
- Follow GMP, quality, and food safety policies; elevate any issues promptly.
- Maintain high standards of product quality, hygiene, and housekeeping.
- Ensure compliance with FSSC 22000 and drive improvements in quality KPIs.
- Support factory initiatives to improve complaints, holds, and FTR%.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- B.S. Degree in Microbiology, Food Science /Technology, or related field preferred.
- Knowledge in food safety / HACCP / Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) / Global Food Safety Initiatives / 5S & GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Basic knowledge in quality management, project management, competent in analytical / microbiological lab environment.
- Preferably 2‑3 years manufacturing and/or laboratory (1‑3 years) experience in food and/or dietary supplements industry.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement.
- Computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites and SAP strongly preferred.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to train, coach, and facilitate effectively.
- Confidence to elevate issues appropriately; strategic mindset and self‑driven attitude.
- Well‑developed coaching and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Skilled in interpreting data and making informed decisions.
- Ability to stay calm and focused under pressure.
- Strong prioritization and delegation skills.
- Comfortable engaging with all levels across the factory.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑demand environment.
