Behavioral Health Assistant Nurse Manager with Admissions – Franklin, IN Horizon Health is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager in Behavioral Health to join our team at Johnson Memorial Health in Franklin, IN
. This unit has 29 inpatient psychiatric beds at its behavioral health center. The Assistant Nurse Manager with Admissions in Behavioral Health assists the Behavioral Health Director in the overall leadership, coordination, and supervision of nursing services within the Behavioral Health unit. This role supports the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals experiencing behavioral health and psychiatric conditions. The Assistant Nurse & Admission Manager collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure efficient patient flow and operational effectiveness.

In addition, this position performs clinical admission duties, including intake assessment, triage, as well as coordinating efficient workflows.

The position also serves as a behavioral health resource to internal hospital departments by providing education, clinical guidance, and support related to behavioral health services and admission processes.

This position requires an active Registered Nurse license and experience conducting behavioral health assessments, evaluating patients for admission, and applying behavioral health admission criteria. The work schedule includes evening hours and participation in after-hours on-call coverage.

• Lead and manage the behavioral health admissions process from initial inquiry through patient placement.
• Perform and oversee clinical admission assessments and triage decisions.
• Ensure admissions decisions align with medical necessity, level of care criteria, and organizational policy.
• Coordinate communication among referring providers, families, emergency departments, and internal clinical teams.
• Support regulatory compliance and documentation accuracy
• Promote a safe, therapeutic, and compassionate admission experience for patients and families

• Provide oversight of nursing care delivery to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered treatment.
• Serve as a clinical resource for staff regarding behavioral health nursing practices, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques.
• Support care planning, treatment team coordination, and discharge planning.

• Perform or assist with clinical admission assessments for incoming patients.
• Complete nursing intake documentation, including observation levels, risk screening, and initial care needs.
• Verify admission readiness and coordinate communication with providers and interdisciplinary team members.
• Support the admission process by ensuring timely completion of required paperwork, orders, and safety checks.
• Identify and expedite clinical concerns related to suicide risk, self-harm risk, aggression, withdrawal, or medical instability.
• Oversee daily admissions workflow and ensure timely patient processing.
• Review incoming referrals, inquiries, and transfer requests for appropriateness and urgency.
• Coordinate bed placement and admission decisions in collaboration with clinical and operational leaders.
• Monitor admissions volume, throughput, and workflow efficiency.
• Ensure proper documentation and tracking of admissions activities.
• Perform clinical admission screenings and assessments consistent with RN scope of practice.
• Collect and evaluate patient information including psychiatric history, medical history, presenting symptoms, medications, risk factors, substance use history, and current level of functioning.
