Position Purpose

The Behavioral Skills Specialist provides support to CPCSC students, staff, and administration in relation to behavior programming, social emotional interventions, data collection, and professional development. Behavioral Skills Specialists work collaboratively with school staff to teach students with behavior difficulties and/or mental health concerns the social emotional skills needed to be successful in multiple environments.

Essential Functions
  • Provides consultation, coaching, modeling, and implementation of best practices of behavioral interventions
  • Delivers evidence-based skill development for students that address the student’s mental/behavioral health and family difficulties that impact school performance and social-emotional wellness and development
  • Provides Tier 2 behavior support interventions including check-in/check-out and skill development groups
  • Conducts observations and informal assessments; provides recommendations to staff and students
  • Coordinates and completes data collection; monitors regularly and revises plans and supports as needed
  • Serves as a resource to school staff and families; consults with outside agencies
  • Supports and communicates with parents
  • Attends student staffing and case conferences, as needed
  • Collaborates with staff to implement social-emotional learning interventions
  • Understands the psychosocial development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences and how it interacts with the educational process
  • Responds to referrals from school administration, school counselors, teachers, Kids Team, special education committees, and others
  • Provides support in crisis and administers threat incident support, including assessing risk and developing safety plans with students, families and school administration
  • Serves and is an active member of building-level student support teams
  • Collaborates with Adult and Child Behavioral Health School Social Therapist and Skills Specialists when needed
  • Attends IEP and 504 meetings as requested
  • Assists with the coordination of re-entry plans for students who have been hospitalized
  • Consult with administrators, teachers, parents, and other professionals about student problems and appropriate change strategies
  • Networks with school programs and community agencies to provide essential services for families and children. Knowledge, skills, and processes for effective casework practice
Qualifications
  • Desirable candidate holds a bachelor’s degree;
    Master’s degree is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in best practices in behavior modification and/or with students with behavior difficulties, trauma, and/or mental illness
  • Experience in data collection
  • Experience in leading professional development and training
