Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performance of these job duties requires considerable independence, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines and confidentiality of City and customer information.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and cleaned.
- Adhere to purchasing policies, processes, and procedures.
- Attend conferences, events, and trainings to keep apprised of municipal utilities and governmental trends.
ABILITY TO
- Effectively communicate with difficult community members and employees and the ability to manage and de-escalate challenging situations.
- Analyze, interpret, apply, and enforce applicable Federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
- Organize and prioritize various projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
- Operate modern office equipment, including computer equipment, specialized software applications, and programs.
- Comprehend and use English effectively, including producing all forms of communication clearly, concisely, and understandable to intended audiences.
- Demonstrate ability to work as a team and be credible, flexible, and adaptable.
- Ability to keep time records and related records and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the public.
- Physically fit.
- Consciousness and appreciation of preventive maintenance and safety measures.
- Ability to work in inclement weather.
- Alertness. Integrity.
KNOWLEDGE
- Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required. Must deal courteously with colleagues and community members.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Learn/Interpret and apply State and local laws and regulations pertaining to City utilities.
- Thorough knowledge of tools and equipment used.
- Thorough knowledge of preventive maintenance.
REQUIRED
Must be willing and available for on-call duty. On-call duty is assigned on a rotating schedule with other department employees. It is a one-week responsibility for 24 hours a day.
WORK HOURS
Must be willing and able to work Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm or as needed as well as non-traditional schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays as may be required in emergency situations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- Work to achieve appropriate certification license as issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky
- Valid driver’s license and CDL license and/or ability to obtain a CDL license
- Experience operating equipment.
PHYSICAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms. The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations. The ability to operate heavy equipment that produces vibrations, perform repetitive movements of hands or wrist;
crouch, crawl; have the ability to move safely over uneven terrain. Must be able to wear personal protective gear correctly during the entire shift. The ability to work in inclement weather for extended periods of time.
REPORTS TO
The field operator reports to the Public Works Field Leader and Public Works Superintendent for work assignments and daily responsibilities.
