Reports to: Building Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
Salary: As per FEA Teacher’s Contract
General Description: The Franklin Public Schools, a Pre‑K‑12 district, seeks a registered nurse to provide school health services at the Lincoln St. and Washington St. schools. Responsibilities include health assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, study, and research. The nurse is a faculty member qualified to assume responsibility for various aspects of the school health services and is evaluated by the Building Principal and the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services.
Responsibilities- Assess and evaluate students’ health status
- Serve as health advocate and provide primary and emergency health care to students, staff and visitors
- Provide appropriate staff with student medical information and guidance related to student health issues as needed
- Serve as a resource person in school health education programs for students, school personnel and parents
- Administer medication in accordance with school and state policies
- Conduct screening of students for vision and hearing, including follow‑up retests, appropriate referrals, and notification of parents
- Teach students and staff various health topics including prevention and control of illness, communicable disease, pediculosis, dental problems and skin protection
- Assist in determining the presence of significant psycho‑educational disturbances in the school‑aged child
- Participate in the modification of the school program to meet the needs of children with disabilities and medical conditions that require modifications in school
- Develop Individual Health Care Plans
- Act as an advocate and consultant for children suspected of being abused or neglected
- Serve on building and system wide committees as needed
- Maintain continuing education requirements for recertification by DESE
- Maintain supplies, take inventory and order necessary equipment for health office
- Utilize SNAP software to document and maintain accurate health records for students
- Maintain health room statistics as required for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health
- Promote a healthful and safe on‑site environment for students and staff
- Registered Nurse licensed in Massachusetts and DESE License
- School experience preferred
- Warm, caring, respectful with a strong desire to work with young children
- Must successfully pass Criminal Offender (CORI) background check and national fingerprinting screening (CHRI)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
