About This Role:

Franklin High School is a place where people show up for each other. Students, staff, and families have built something real here, and we want an Assistant Principal who understands that the work of school leadership is relational before it is anything else. This is a full-year position. You will share responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the school, support professional learning, and be a visible, trusted presence in the building.

That means being in classrooms, at events, in difficult conversations, and anywhere else students and staff need steady, thoughtful leadership. The right person for this role brings instructional knowledge, operational competence, and the kind of character that earns trust over time. We are not looking for someone who manages from a distance. We are looking for someone who leads by being present.

Qualifications:

Required:

* Current MA DESE Initial or Professional License for School Principal/Assistant Principal (9-12)

* Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher or Administrator Endorsement

* Master's Degree in Education

* A minimum of three years of teaching experience

Preferred:

* Prior supervisory or administrative experience in a secondary school setting

Performance Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership:
Good instruction does not happen by accident. It is built through consistent support, honest feedback, and a professional culture where teachers feel safe taking risks and growing.

* Support the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) through professional development, data analysis, and ongoing collaboration with teachers

* Foster a reflective professional community focused on adult and student learning

* Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to working with students of varying needs, strengths, and learning profiles

* Support in-service orientation and training for staff, with particular attention to administrative procedures

* Conduct regular classroom observations and provide meaningful, growth-oriented feedback to staff

* Assist in the ongoing development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum

* Serve as a consultant, resource, and mentor to faculty within your areas of responsibility

* Stay current with research-based best practices in secondary education

Management and Operations:
School buildings are complex. Schedules, safety protocols, budgets, records, and a hundred competing priorities all require someone who can hold the details without losing sight of the people. This position demands both.

* Share responsibility with the Principal for the safety and administration of the school

* Lead and supervise fire drills, lockdown drills, and the school's emergency preparedness program

* Maintain accurate and current inventories of school property; ensure proper security and accountability

* Assist in recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating school staff

* Support the planning, organizing, and implementation of school activities and programs

* Keep the Principal regularly informed of significant events and routine matters relevant to school operations

* Oversee the management of student activity funds

* Maintain accurate student attendance and progress records; prepare required reports

* Support the district budget process

* Demonstrate working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal education laws, regulations, and policies

* Lead the Instructional Support Team: agenda, meeting structure, and outcomes

* Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or their designee

Family and Community Engagement:
Families trust us with the people they love most. That trust is earned through relationships, communication, and showing up when it counts.

* Build and maintain active relationships with students and parents

* Attend student achievement events, school-sponsored activities, fine and performing arts performances, and athletic events as requested

* Coordinate and facilitate parent-teacher conferences as needed

Professional Culture:
Culture is not a policy. It is what happens between people when no one is watching. The Assistant Principal helps set that tone every day.

* Communicate effectively and constructively with students, staff, and parents in support of child-centered instruction

* Establish and uphold clear expectations for student conduct; enforce discipline fairly and consistently, in accordance with students' due process rights

* Serve as an ex officio member of school-based committees and councils

* Participate in district and school committees as directed by the Principal or district leadership
