Job Description:
The Dean of Students supports the College's Campus Life division in fostering a student-centered environment that promotes engagement, wellbeing, belonging, accountability, persistence, and student success. This position ensures effective delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of student services; advances institutional retention initiatives; leads crisis response efforts; and serves as a primary liaison to students and families. The Dean of Students resides on campus and plays a critical role in crisis management and institutional operations.
Expected salary range: $90,000-$100,000 when annualized, commensurate with experience. The College also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement contributions, and generous paid time off. The position includes a live-on requirement, with the Dean of Students receiving an unfurnished campus house (utilities included) and a meal plan when the dining center is open.
Position responsibilities include:
Campus Life Leadership, Assessment, and Student Success
* Provide oversight for Student Activities and Leadership Development, New Student Orientation, Health Services, Counseling Services, Dining Services, and Student Conduct and Community Standards.
* Supervise and support professional staff to ensure high-quality, student-centered services and programs aligned with institutional priorities.
* Lead assessment efforts, including the development and implementation of measurable learning outcomes and operational effectiveness metrics.
* Utilize data, assessment results, and student feedback to inform planning, program development, accreditation support, and continuous improvement efforts.
* Support campus partners in the design, implementation, and assessment of comprehensive retention strategies that promote student persistence and completion
* Identify trends impacting student success and develop proactive interventions to support at-risk student populations.
* Serve as the chair of the CARE (Concerns, Assessment, Resources, and Education) Team and Behavioral Intervention Team.
Crisis Management and Campus Safety
* Serve as a primary crisis manager for the institution.
* Coordinate and participate in the Administrator-On-Call (AOC) rotation, including training, protocol development, and crisis manual oversight.
* Serve as the Daytime Crisis Manager during the academic year.
* Serve on the Dean Incident Response Team (DIRT).
* Oversee the College's Emergency Notification System (ENS).
Institutional Collaboration
* Represent Campus Life on key institutional committees.
* Collaborates with campus partners to advance institutional initiatives and promote operational alignment across divisions.
Family Engagement
* Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and families.
* Coordinate regular communications to parents and families, including monthly updates.
External Partnerships
* Serve as institutional liaison to external partners, including Milford Regional Medical Center, Sodexo, and the Student Health Insurance Provider.
Requirements:
* Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a closely related field is required; a doctorate in a related field is preferred.
* Minimum of 5 years of progressive, full-time experience in student affairs.
* Comprehensive experience overseeing student affairs functional areas, including, student activities, student conduct, and health services administration.
* Proven expertise in crisis management, emergency response coordination, and institutional incident response.
* Demonstrated success in program development, implementation, and assessment.
* Strong supervisory experience, including staff development, performance management, and team leadership.
* Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
* Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, complex situations, and competing deadlines effectively.
* Experience in financial management and budget planning.
* Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to campus emergencies, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
* Ability to reside on campus and maintain availability for crisis response and student support outside of traditional business hours.
* Must be available to work nights and weekends in support of campus programs and events, as needed.
