Position: Adjunct Faculty - Intro to Weight Training (EXSC-290)
Job Description:

Dean College's School of Liberal Arts & Sciences is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach in person during the Fall 2026 semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.

We are seeking an adjunct instructor to teach EXSC-290:
Introduction to Weight Training. EXSC-290 is a 3-credit class that meets for 2.5 hours/week. The adjunct pay rate is $3300/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The Exercise Science program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. All faculty are expected to make active use of the learning management system (Canvas) at least at a minimum level established by the College.

The course description is as follows:
This course will assist with the development of skills to promote participation in a weight training program. Students will use universal and free weights to develop strength and muscular endurance. The course covers concepts of form, repetition sequence, and provide a basic understanding of muscular and training techniques.

There is one EXSC-290 section available. It is scheduled to meet as follows:
Tuesday/Thursday, 8:00 am to 9:15 am. Tuesday is lecture and Thursday is lab in the weight room.

Requirements:
  • Master's degree in exercise science or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in strength and conditioning or another professional certification equivalent is required.
  • Experience teaching or coaching in person at the college level is preferred.
  • Experience creating lesson plans for lab/weight room activities and knowledge of various exercise equipment is required.
  • Strong computer skills is required. Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy is required.
  • Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools is required.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media is required.
  • Expertise in learner-centered teaching is required. Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required.
