The Franklin Public Schools, a PreK-12 district, is seeking a skilled and experienced special education teacher to serve as a special educator at Franklin Middle School. The teacher will work in a model of service delivery offering academic support in general education classrooms combined with specialized instruction for small groups and individuals on a pull‑out basis. Students requiring assistance and support have mild to moderate disabilities.
KeyDuties and Responsibilities
- Plan for effective instruction and intervention for students on IEPs
- Administer formal diagnostic assessments and tests for students initially referred and for three‑year reevaluations of caseload students
- Administer ongoing progress monitoring, strategic monitoring and benchmark systems
- Schedule, prepare for, and attend team meetings for caseload students
- Write comprehensive progress reports
- Collaborate with general education staff regarding appropriate accommodations and modifications
- Communicate regularly with families of students on caseload
- Collect and analyze student data against IEP goals
- Work collaboratively with special education team to improve supports, services and programming for students with disabilities
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred - Massachusetts licensure in Moderate Special Needs through the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education
- Wilson/OG training/certification preferred
- Demonstrated success with and knowledge of research‑based interventions for children with disabilities
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive behavior intervention plans
- Experience with administration and interpretation of a wide range of formal and informal diagnostic assessment and evaluation tools
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Experience in a public school setting
- Able to take initiative and work independently
- Successfully pass Criminal Offender (CORI) background check and national fingerprint screening (CHRI)
