Responsibilities

Electrical Engineer – R&D

  • Generate circuit board schematics in Cadence OrCAD or equivalent tools such as Mentor Graphics; 1 to 2 years of professional‑level experience are desired.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to the design of electrical systems.
  • Digital, analog, mixed‑signal circuit design, including selection and sizing of transformers and power supplies.
  • Work with a range of automation components:
    • Stepper and linear motors, associated drives and encoders
    • Air/pneumatic controls, contractors, relays, alarms, sensors, switches
    • Barcode readers, cameras, networking and other communication devices
  • Circuit board layout skills are not required, but must be able to generate layout requirements for external vendors and review design outputs.
  • Evaluate systems to determine electrical requirements.
  • Select appropriate components to fill system requirements.
  • Use computer‑assisted engineering software (AutoCAD) to perform engineering tasks.
  • Prepare documentation for transfer of system to manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot fieldbus communication and power distribution issues.
  • Source replacement components for discontinued electronic items.
  • Support service department as needed.
  • Provide quality assurance for ongoing projects.
  • Keep current with the latest technical innovations in electrical engineering.
  • Travel is required.
Qualifications
  • Experience with OrCAD or similar circuit board layout tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g. AutoCAD, Solid Works, Draftsight).
  • Willing to take ownership of assigned tasks and take them to completion.
  • Familiarity with computer hardware and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Working knowledge of a programming language (e.g., C, C++, Visual Basic, Pascal, HTML).
  • Troubleshooting of electrical circuits/components using a digital multimeter, oscilloscope, and power meters.
Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or comparable field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant field.
Skills Considered a Plus
  • Experience with Solid Works Electrical to generate schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with fieldbus communications.
  • Experience with ELMO branded motor drive products.
  • Verilog/VHDL knowledge to debug FPGA/CPLD firmware.
  • Understanding of environmental sensors such as thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors, humidity sensors, oxygen sensors (4‑20 mA or analog voltage format).
  • Refrigeration or similar controls knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of communication protocols such as RS‑485/Modbus, Profi

    NET, Ether

    CAT/TwinCAT, CAN/CANopen.
  • Electrical enclosure certifications and ratings such as CE, UL, CSA, NEMA, battery and hazard ratings.
