Compensation & Benefits

Full-time Firefighter/Paramedic pay rate: $72,041.84 - $81,081.52
Firefighter/EMT pay rate: $59,171.32 - $68,624.40 + 10% pension pick‑up

Take‑home pay with pension pick‑up:
Firefighter/Paramedic $79,246.02 - $89,189.67 annually;
Firefighter/EMT $65,088.45 - $75,486.84 annually

Qualifications

Must possess a certificate under ORC 4765.55 evidencing satisfactory completion of a firefighter training program, and a valid certificate issued under ORC 4765.11 as an EMT, or a valid certificate under ORC 4765.30 to practice as a paramedic. Candidates must also be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s record.

If not certified as a paramedic upon appointment, candidates must obtain Paramedic and Firefighter II certification within twenty‑four (24) calendar months of hire.

Application Process

STEP 1: Completed applications, resumes, accompanying certifications, written test results, and proof of satisfactory Firefighter Mile / CPAT results will be accepted through Friday, March 20, 2026. Applications are available online:

STEP 2: Written Test. Schedule and complete a pre‑employment Fire Exam with Industrial/Organizational Solutions. The exam must be completed at the City of Franklin Fire Department located at 45 East 4th Street, Franklin, Ohio 45005 between March 20, 2025 – March 20, 2026. STEP 3: Physical Agility Test. If you possess a valid CPAT or Firefighter Mile certificate issued no earlier than March 20, 2025, from a licensed CPAT or NTN provider, that certificate will be accepted in lieu of completing the Physical Agility Test. Testing for internal candidates requires oversight by the Franklin Civil Service Commission.
