Position SummaryThe Quality Control Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the quality control and assurance programs for all construction and paving operations within the Mid‑West Central Region. This role ensures compliance with DOT, project specifications, and company standards while driving continuous improvement in materials quality, construction practices, and documentation. The Quality Control Director serves as a technical leader and strategic partner to operations, promoting consistency, accountability, and excellence across all projects.
MainResponsibilities Quality Program Leadership
- Develop, implement, and maintain regional quality control and quality assurance programs
- Establish standardized testing, inspection, and documentation procedures
- Ensure regional compliance with DOT, municipal, and project‑specific quality requirements
- Serve as the authority on quality‑related policies, procedures, and best practices
- Oversee asphalt mix design development, approval, and performance monitoring
- Supervise laboratory operations, field testing, and inspection activities
- Review and analyze test data, trends, and non‑conformance issues
- Coordinate corrective actions related to materials, production, or field placement
- Ensure compliance with state DOT, FAA (if applicable), municipal, and owner specifications
- Interface with DOT officials, inspectors, and third‑party testing agencies
- Manage audits, certifications, and plant/lab qualifications
- Stay current on specification changes, industry standards, and testing methods
- Partner with Operations, Project Managers, and Superintendents to support quality execution
- Assist with pre‑construction planning, mix selection, and constructability reviews
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting paving and materials issues in the field
- Participate in post‑project reviews and performance evaluations
- Lead and mentor Quality Control Managers, technicians, and laboratory personnel
- Establish training programs to improve technical skills and consistency
- Promote accountability, professionalism, and safety within QC teams
- Analyze regional quality performance metrics and identify improvement opportunities
- Prepare and present quality reports to senior leadership
- Drive initiatives that improve durability, consistency, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
- Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of experience in asphalt materials, quality control, or heavy civil construction
- Proven leadership experience managing QC teams or regional quality programs
- Strong knowledge of asphalt mix design, testing procedures, and paving operations
- Extensive experience with DOT specifications and compliance requirements
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the Mid‑West Central Region
- Preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- DOT certifications (e.g., HMA Level I/II, ICC, ACI, or state‑specific credentials)
- Experience with performance‑based mix designs and advanced testing methods
- Strong technical expertise in asphalt materials and construction quality
- Proven leadership and team‑development skills
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with operations, customers, and regulatory agencies
- High level of organization, integrity, and attention to detail
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
