Diesel Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

A growing recycling and environmental-services organization is seeking a hands-on Diesel Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to lead its truck-maintenance operation. This working-leader role is responsible for keeping a busy fleet of commercial trucks, trailers, and related equipment safe, reliable, and ready for service.

The ideal candidate combines strong diesel-maintenance and diagnostic experience with the ability to lead technicians, establish repair priorities, and step into hands-on mechanical work when needed.

Lead and coordinate daily shop workflow, including preventive maintenance, inspections, breakdowns, and urgent repairs.

Supervise, support, and develop technicians working on diesel trucks, trailers, brakes, tires, engines, and related equipment.

Perform and oversee hands-on diagnostics, troubleshooting, and mechanical repairs.

Monitor fleet condition and address mechanical and safety concerns before they affect operations.

Maintain accurate work orders, service records, and preventive-maintenance documentation.

Coordinate parts, supplies, inventory, outside vendors, and third-party repair services.

Communicate equipment status, major repairs, downtime, and maintenance priorities to management.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop while reinforcing company and DOT compliance requirements.

Commercial truck, diesel, fleet, or heavy-equipment maintenance experience.

Strong hands-on diesel diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.

Direct brake-repair experience, preferably including commercial air-brake systems.

Leadership experience as a maintenance supervisor, shop foreman, lead diesel technician, or senior mechanic responsible for directing work.

Knowledge of preventive maintenance, commercial-vehicle inspections, work orders, and service documentation.

Ability to organize competing priorities while remaining actively involved in repairs.

Strong communication, judgment, organization, and follow-through.

Ability to safely use standard mechanical tools and equipment and lift up to 50 pounds.

Flexibility to work occasional nights, weekends, or additional hours when operational needs require.

Experience maintaining roll-off, refuse, recycling, vocational, or mixed commercial-truck fleets.

EPA Universal Certification, ASE Medium Heavy Truck certifications, CDL, DOT inspection qualification, or similar credentials.

Experience with fleet-maintenance software, preventive-maintenance scheduling, parts inventory, and outside repair vendors.

Lead an essential maintenance operation with a direct impact on fleet safety and uptime.
