POSITION
DESCRIPTION:
* The General Education Elementary Teacher serves as an instructional leader in a dynamic, student-centered learning environment. This educator is responsible for delivering rigorous, differentiated instruction aligned with Tennessee Academic Standards and fostering a supportive classroom that promotes academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and lifelong learning. The teacher works collaboratively with colleagues, families, and support staff to meet the needs of all students and to advance the goals of the school improvement plan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instruction & Assessment
* Administers and develops formative and summative assessments to measure student learning and inform instruction.
* Designs and delivers standards-based instruction across core content areas using a variety of instructional strategies to engage diverse learners.
* Constructs meaningful learning experiences that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and future-readiness.
* Assesses student progress toward grade-level expectations and learning goals; provides timely, actionable feedback to students, parents, and school administrators.
* Differentiates instruction to meet individual learning needs, including interventions for students performing below grade level and enrichment for those who need greater challenge.
Classroom & Student Support
* Establishes a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom climate conducive to learning and aligned with FSD behavioral expectations.
* Monitors students in various settings (e.g., classroom, recess, field trips) to ensure a secure and supportive environment.
* Manages student behavior using proactive and restorative practices to maintain a respectful learning environment.
* Counsels and guides students on academic, behavioral, and social-emotional matters as needed, referring to support staff when appropriate.
Communication & Collaboration
* Communicates regularly with parents/guardians about student academic performance, behavior, and social development to support learning at home.
* Collaborates with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, specialists, and administration to enhance instruction and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
* Participates actively in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and district-led training opportunities.
* Engages with community resources to support student growth and development.
Documentation & Compliance
* Maintains accurate and timely records, including lesson plans, grades, attendance, assessments, and parent communication logs.
* Prepares required documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal policies.
* Reports incidents (e.g., suspected child abuse, harassment, safety concerns) in accordance with FSD policies and Tennessee law.
* Responds appropriately to emergency situations to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field required;
Master's degree preferred.
* Valid Tennessee teaching license with appropriate elementary endorsement
DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
* Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff and vendors
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and vendors
* Ability to effectively perform job duties with minimum supervision
* Demonstrated problem solving and time management abilities
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
* Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting
* Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
* Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior (only after training completed)
* May work prolonged or irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather), exposure to noise
* Work with frequent interruptions
