Assigned Campus Not to Exceed 5.5 hours per day Primary Purpose The Instructional Aide Position enhances the educational process and potential of the student. Instructional Aides work with certified staff and building level administrators to assist with performing daily educational tasks as assigned. Persons must be able to adapt to performing a variety of duties, accepting direction, control and planning of an activity, ability to work with students within their learning environments, and the ability to make decisions based on sensory or judgement.

Qualifications

Instructional Aides must have at minimum, a high school diploma or a GED equivalent and shall show demonstrable proficiency in reading and writing skills.

  • Minimum of a high school education or the equivalent as determined by the General Education Development Test (GED) and 48 Semester hours of college work obtained from an accredited institution of higher education;
  • Associate's degree or higher obtained from an accredited institution of higher education;
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and pass a state approved Para Pro Assessment;
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and show demonstratable proficiency in reading and writing skills

In performing the primary function and essential duties of this position, confidentiality must be maintained at all times.

Primary Functions and Essential Duties
  • Aid Teacher in general classroom functions such as lesson materials, room preparation and tidiness, and student records.
  • Conduct small group instruction under the direction of the teacher.
  • Help provide a well-organized, efficient classroom environment.
  • Maintain and follow through disciplinary procedures including classroom, school, and district policies and according to individual teacher's plan and the child's IEP as needed.
  • Follow specific directions with initiative, flexibility, and motivation while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
  • Obtain other certifications and training as required by State Department of Education or the McMinn County School system.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of all services provided to students.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, supervisor, or the Director of the McMinn County Board of Education.

Essential Function – Regular Attendance Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position. Employees must be able to consistently report to work as scheduled, maintain an established work schedule, and perform assigned duties during all scheduled work hours. Non-exempt employees are expected to adhere to assigned work schedules, accurately record time worked, and obtain required approval for absences, tardiness, schedule changes, overtime, or early departures.

Reliable attendance is necessary to ensure the effective delivery of services, continuity of operations, safety and supervision of students, collaboration with colleagues, and fulfillment of the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

    Frequent walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting;

  • Mental Demands:
    Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.
