Overview
Our client, a highly respected regional civil engineering firm with over 70 years in the industry, is seeking a Transportation Department Lead to support their growing Franklin office
. This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior transportation professional who enjoys leadership, client engagement, and strategic direction within a collaborative, people-focused environment.
The firm has a strong reputation across Tennessee for roadway, traffic, and multimodal design, and their Middle Tennessee team works closely with offices across the region to deliver high-impact public sector transportation projects. With continued growth in the TDOT and municipal markets, they are looking to add a seasoned leader to guide the department into its next phase.
Responsibilities- Managing and mentoring a team of roadway and transportation engineers
- Overseeing project delivery for TDOT, municipal, and county clients
- Leading departmental planning, workload management, and financial performance
- Building and strengthening client relationships across Middle Tennessee
- Providing technical oversight on roadway, safety, and multimodal design projects
- Ensuring all work meets TDOT standards, processes, and quality expectations
- Supporting proposals, interviews, and business development pursuits
- Collaborating with senior leadership on long-term strategy and market growth
- At least 10 years of experience in transportation or roadway engineering
- Strong working knowledge of TDOT processes, standards, and procedures
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license TN
- Proven leadership experience managing teams, clients, and complex projects
- Excellent communication skills and a mentorship-oriented leadership style
- A desire to help shape a growing transportation practice
