Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Field Service Engineer to join our team, specializing in industrial automation systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining electro-hydraulic control systems across global industrial sites.

Location

Houston (frequent travel required across the country, with some international assignments)

Travel Commitment

Approx. 210 days/year, with average assignments of 30 days per site

Training

Up to 2-3 months of global training required

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site service activities including installation, commissioning, and maintenance of control systems.
  • Interpret and work with electrical, hydraulic, and P&.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults in PLC-controlled electro-hydraulic systems, control cabinets, and process loops.
  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks including Modbus, and Ethernet.
  • Program and modify PLC and HMI systems, primarily using Rockwell and Siemens platforms.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure system integrity and performance.
  • Maintain detailed service reports and documentation.
  • Coordinate teams of technicians performing maintenance on electrohydraulic systems.
  • Maintain daily communications with customers, ensuring timely execution of assignments.
  • Track daily costs and billable hours.
  • Provide troubleshooting support to customers.
  • Ensure safe execution of activities, including coordinating lock-out/tag-out procedures, conducting Job Hazard Analysis.
Qualifications
  • Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. A bachelor’s degree is a plus, but candidates with substantial relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally for extended periods (average 30 days per trip).
  • Willingness to support customers during emergencies (customer's plants are critical and operate on a 24/7 basis.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and hydraulic schematics, and P&.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial hydraulic systems.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex control systems.
  • Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming (Rockwell, Siemens).
  • Good stress management and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Candidate must be physically fit and capable of:
    • Climbing several flights of stairs
    • Climbing ladders
    • Working at heights
    • Lifting light weights (tools and components)
    • Ability to work in industrial environments and comply with all safety standards.
  • Must successfully pass background checks and drug screening prior to employment.
Additional Requirements
  • Refinery Access:
    Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) to access refinery and port facilities.
  • Passport

    Required:

    Must hold (or be able to obtain) a valid passport for international travel assignments.
  • Drug & Alcohol Compliance:
    Candidates must be able to participate in extensive and ongoing random drug testing required by refinery sites. Testing methods may include oral swab, urinalysis,…
