Overview
As a Water Resource Engineer for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Nashville, TN office, you’ll lead and contribute to a wide range of projects, including stormwater management, environmental permitting, MS4 compliance, watershed planning, and municipal engineering. You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of passionate experts, delivering innovative solutions tailored to our clients’ needs, while supporting a shared vision for balanced growth.
Key Responsibilities- Lead environmental planning and permitting efforts for complex transportation and infrastructure projects, integrating water resource considerations
- Interpret and apply local, state, and federal environmental regulations to ensure compliance throughout project life cycles
- Advise and support municipalities in developing and implementing environmental policies, technical standards, design manuals, and procedural guidelines
- Oversee quality assurance and control for technical deliverables, including engineering reports, permit applications, and design documentation
- Develop and manage scopes of services, budgets, invoicing, and financial forecasting for water resource and environmental projects
- Provide technical mentorship, training, and performance oversight for junior and mid-level engineering staff
- Lead client engagement and business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, relationship management, and strategic growth planning
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Tennessee, or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe
- 10+ years of experience in environmental compliance, permitting, and water resource engineering
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying environmental regulations including Clean Water Act and state‑specific permitting frameworks on transportation or infrastructure projects
- Established professional relationships with Tennessee regulatory agencies, municipal governments, and county authorities
- Proven leadership experience mentoring and developing junior engineering staff
- Exceptional project management skills including task delegation, scheduling, budgeting, and resource optimization
- Experience managing staff utilization and allocating resources to deliver high‑quality, client‑focused projects
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts across multiple platforms
- Collaborative mindset with experience leading multidisciplinary teams and engaging in creative problem‑solving and critical analysis
