As an Environmental Technician for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Franklin, TN office, you’ll coordinate and implement site‑specific environmental project tasks while working closely with engineers, geologists, and scientists. You’ll plan and conduct fieldwork including surface water, wastewater, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, air sampling, and provide office support. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, flexibility, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team, with periodic travel and outdoor work.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and perform fieldwork including surface water, wastewater, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, and air sampling.
- Assist clients in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Prepare daily and weekly field reports, progress reports, and project documentation in accordance with company procedures.
- Assist in preparing final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and report appendices.
- Collaborate with project personnel including contractors, project managers, engineers, and clients, supporting an integrated team approach.
- Observe and follow site‑specific health and safety plans and company Workplace Safety Manual policies.
- 0 to 5 years of experience is preferred; related experience in mechanical, construction, environmental, or solid waste field experience is a plus.
- Mechanical or construction knowledge is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing is required, willingness to travel.
- Must meet physical requirements for driving (pickup truck), walking inspection of improved and unimproved property, lifting and carrying equipment/mechanical components (occasionally up to 50 lbs. unassisted), hand excavation/digging (using shovels/picks), carrying and climbing ladders, operating and working from man lifts, operating electric tools (drills, saws, etc.), using hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.) and providing services under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently in the field while following operating procedures.
- Technical training or experience collecting samples is a plus.
- 40‑hour HAZWOPER training is a plus.
