A Project Manager (PM) is an experienced licensed engineer who defines projects, develops tasks, coordinates and monitors work, and delivers final products on time and within budget. The PM manages quality, scope, client service, billing, and project profitability. Responsibilities include proposal preparation, team selection, design decision-making, client relationship management, contract change approval, and fee collection.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Coordinate with client and stakeholders to prepare scopes of services and fee proposals for approval by a Principal, Associate Principal or Associate.
- Provide scheduling, budgeting, design scope, quality control and supervision of Project Engineers, Design Engineers and Engineering Technicians during planning, design and construction.
- Review scope of services and deliverables, develop task lists and schedules, obtain payment for work outside contract scope, review invoices, and verify client status reports.
- Prepare written work requests and RFPs for subconsultants, determining necessary information and overseeing delivery.
- Manage schedule and flow of information among the design team and subconsultants; review received data for completeness and accuracy.
- Coordinate research of county records and other public sources; review and approve preliminary and development designs; identify potential design problems and coordinate solutions.
- Review final design drawings for completeness and accuracy; perform back checks, provide final review, use corporate quality control tools, and respond to construction-related problems.
- Mentor and provide direct assistance to new employees; review timesheets; review weekly schedule and budget status with team members; prepare weekly schedule for Design Engineers and Engineers.
- Provide accurate time accounting with descriptions; track key performance elements; report to Supervisor.
- Innovate and develop new ways to improve efficiency.
- Develop a steady pipeline of opportunities through business development with external community members; participate in community events to raise brand awareness.
- Assist in recruitment and retention of engineering roles.
- Work with functional departments to fulfill corporate needs.
- Perform other duties assigned by a Principal or Associate.
- Travel periodically to project meetings and construction sites (day trips or overnight trips, occasionally longer).
- Participate in client maintenance and develop new client relationships.
- Participate in marketing and business development activities.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience; 5 years preferred.
- Licensed to practice Civil Engineering, with ability to obtain licensing in additional states.
- Experience preparing design calculations and documents (plans and specifications).
- Delegate tasks effectively.
- Design all components of a project.
- Manage projects from inception to completion.
- Lead project design and ensure completeness.
- Prioritize tasks and manage time for self and team.
- Prepare calculations and reports that clearly express requirements.
- Proficient with civil design software (AutoCAD, Civil3D, stormwater design programs).
- Proficient with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software.
- Excellent planning and organization skills.
- Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills.
- Effective communication with internal and external project team members, stakeholders, government agencies, and community members.
