The Director of Finance provides strategic and operational leadership for all accounting and administrative functions supporting the development and ongoing operations of a luxury rural farm resort. This role ensures full compliance with county, state, and federal regulations while driving revenue growth, profitability, and exceptional service standards.

As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Finance oversees General & Administrative functions including Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Purchasing, Receiving, Night Audit, and Credit. This position carries significant responsibility for safeguarding the organization’s financial integrity, strengthening internal controls, and advancing the company’s mission, long‑term profitability, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Lead all finance and accounting functions to support the organization’s Mission and Vision while protecting stakeholder interests.
  • Develop and execute financial strategies that drive revenue growth, market share, and operational excellence.
  • Establish and enforce departmental policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts; monitor performance and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including:
  • Balance Sheets
  • Income Statements
  • Cash Flow Forecasts
  • Account Reconciliations
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Credit functions.
  • Maintain financial databases and ensure accuracy of accounting software integration with the Property Management System.
  • Collaborate with external partners to ensure timely and accurate audit reporting.
Operational & Compliance Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including county, state, innkeeper, liquor, and labor laws.
  • Oversee preparation and filing of all tax requirements.
  • Manage inventory control systems and purchasing procedures, including monitoring turn ratios and days-on-hand for key asset categories.
  • Review and oversee leases, contracts, agreements, covenants, and restrictions to protect company interests.
  • Manage Controller checklists and ensure adherence to best practices.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate the AP/Payroll, AR/Credit, IT, and Purchasing teams.
  • Conduct performance reviews and foster a culture of accountability and collaboration.
  • Evaluate departmental productivity and performance, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Partner with leadership to drive organizational goals and cross‑functional initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum 3+ years of progressive experience in hospitality finance or a related business field.
  • Hotel or resort experience strongly preferred; opening experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of hospitality financial operations and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage complex priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated team‑focused leadership, including coaching, collaboration, and performance management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build consensus and gain buy‑in across departments.
