Tax Assistant

The Tax Assistant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of payroll tax, withholding, and reporting processes across multiple entities. This detail‑oriented position supports state and local tax administration, unemployment and sales tax reporting, payroll tax reconciliations, and year‑end tax activities while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to work independently, and possesses a strong understanding of state and local withholding requirements with a commitment to accuracy in a fast‑paced environment.

• Calculates state, city, and local withholding; completes necessary forms (weekly, semi‑monthly, monthly, quarterly and annually); prepares and sends check requests to A/P & ACHs (electronic payments)
• Assists with State Unemployment quarterly
• Maintains checklists for state/city withholding & LST
• Assists with A/P keying weekly when needed
• Replies to mail pertaining to state & city withholding payments and state unemployment
• Organizes and files W‑2 forms remittance at year‑end
• Assists with inspection of W‑2's for accuracy and reconciliations/amendments as needed
• Assists with payroll tax changes. Calculates & records payroll tax payments for TJC, H & S, and Coppley USA and communicates intercompany charges to companies and answers any related questions
• Runs tax and statistical reports as necessary
• Verifies accuracy of data from payroll for taxes to prevent over payment of taxes
• Updates online and web file instructions and uploads files to states and cities as required by government in correct formats
• Performs other related duties as required or assigned
• Assists with Sales Tax
• Reconciles G/L state and local withholding tax accounts quarterly

• Working knowledge of State & Local Withholding requirements
• Ability to accurately perform detailed work
• Ability to understand and apply written directions
• Ability to work independently and organize own work
