Williamson County Government is seeking a dedicated, service-oriented professional to lead the County’s Veterans Services Office and provide confidential, no-cost assistance to veterans of the United States Armed Forces and their dependents.

The Veterans Service Officer assists veterans, dependents, and survivors in identifying and obtaining federal, state, local, and private benefits. Responsibilities include evaluating eligibility, developing and submitting claims, assisting with appeals, explaining benefit decisions and requirements, maintaining confidential records, conducting outreach, and coordinating with the Tennessee Department of Veterans Services (TDVS), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, veterans service organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces. This statutory requirement cannot be waived.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in veterans services, benefits or claims administration, military personnel services, case management, public service, healthcare navigation, social services, or a closely related field.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must successfully complete required training and obtain TDVS accreditation within one year of appointment.

Strong computer and technology skills are essential. This position requires proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn Microsoft 365, electronic claims and case-management platforms, secure online portals, scanning and document-management tools, virtual-meeting systems, and electronic reporting and records systems. Candidates must be comfortable maintaining accurate digital records, following cybersecurity and privacy requirements, troubleshooting routine technology issues, and learning new systems.

The successful candidate will also possess strong communication, interviewing, customer-service and advocacy skills; sound judgment; attention to detail; and the ability to manage confidential information, competing deadlines, and a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision.

Preferred qualifications include an associate or bachelor's degree in a related field; experience preparing or adjudicating veterans-benefit claims; current veterans-service accreditation; and experience leading programs, outreach, or office operations.
