- Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician and/or advanced practitioner
- Prepare patients to be seen and perform specific procedures with appropriate orientation and supervision
- Assist with patient phone calls, prescription refills, referrals, and prior authorizations
- Interview patients and measure and record vital signs in patients' charts
- Collect blood samples, tissue, or other laboratory specimens and prepare them for testing as required
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician's instructions to patients
- Prepare and maintain clean, neat treatment rooms
- Assist with business operations, clerical duties, medical records management, reception, and patient scheduling as needed
- Demonstrate teamwork to achieve team, individual, and corporate goals
- Provide support to team members and perform other duties as required
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
- Test and pass the National Certification exam (AAMA, NHA, NCCT, AMT, NAHP) to be certified as Medical Assistant required
- Graduated from a Medical Assistant program, accredited by the Commission on accreditation of Allied Health Education Program preferred
- 1-2 years' experience in a clinical setting is preferred
- Good oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, physicians, advanced practitioners and staff members
- Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions, policies, guidelines and standards
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
- Intermediate Proficiency level with Microsoft Office:
Word and Excel - Ability to handle and lift patients
- Ability to stand and walk for extensive periods of time
- Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
- Ability to work under stressful conditions
- Requires exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
Demonstrates proficiency in patient care, including vital sign measurement, specimen collection, and treatment explanation, while effectively managing clerical duties and medical records. Holds necessary certifications and possesses strong communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
