Molecular Technologist II

The Molecular Technologist at iMDx performs high-complexity molecular diagnostic testing in accordance with CLIA, CAP, TN Medical Laboratory Board, NY State Wadsworth, and company policies and procedures. In addition to primary laboratory testing responsibilities, this position assists and maintains iMDx’s CLIA Quality Program, supporting CLIA operations, including document control and equipment maintenance activities.

Core Competencies

  • Molecular Diagnostic Testing – Proficiency in high-complexity molecular testing methodologies, including PCR, qPCR, ddPCR, and NGS.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Good Laboratory Practices – Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, Tennessee Medical Laboratory Board requirements, and applicable quality and documentation standards.
  • Quality Control & Quality Assurance – Demonstrated ability to perform QC activities, proficiency testing, reagent qualifications, method comparisons, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Laboratory Operations & Technical Troubleshooting – Skilled in operating, maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation while supporting efficient high-throughput operations.
  • Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving – Ability to identify testing or equipment issues, evaluate results, determine appropriate corrective actions, and escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Collaboration, Communication & Adaptability – Effective team contributor with strong interpersonal skills, flexibility in changing priorities, and the ability to support training, cross-functional initiatives, and leadership directives.

Professional Experience

  • Perform clinical testing by following the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintains records of patient test results
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (e.g., perform daily/weekly/monthly/etc. maintenance tasks and yearly calibration/preventative maintenance)
  • Participate in quality assurance activities such as instrument/method comparison, reagent qualifications, proficiency testing (or Alternative Performance Assessment testing), instrument comparison, and reagent qualifications as well as adhere to quality control procedures
  • Participate in troubleshooting and resolving assay or equipment issues and escalates to Laboratory Management
  • Successfully implement organizational initiatives and leadership directives.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of reagents and consumables
  • Provide recommendations for SOP revisions and may assist with revising SOPs
  • Follow all safety guidelines, maintain a safe and orderly work environment and wear personal protective equipment as needed.
  • Assists with training new laboratory staff
  • Support the company in the achievement of its goals (may participate in performing CLIA validation studies)
  • Work on other projects/tasks as assigned with moderate supervision; projects are mostly clerical and is a project participant (project lead as needed)
  • May perform other duties as assigned

What You Bring To The Table

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in Chemical, Biological, Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science
  • ASCP or AMT certification required in Medical Laboratory Science
  • Current State of Tennessee Department of Health Medical Lab Professional License highly preferred.
